They'd look at us like we were aliens when we mentioned SaaS metrics or Shopify integrations. So we built something different.
Three accountants who were tired of explaining blockchain to partners who thought it was just a fad. We pooled our savings, rented desk space, and started taking on tech clients that bigger firms turned away. Our first client paid us in equity because they were pre-revenue - they're worth $8M now, by the way.
Word got around that we actually understood e-commerce P&L statements and startup burn rates. We hired our first full-time employees (not contractors - real team members with benefits and everything). Started specializing in sales tax for cross-border e-commerce because, honestly, it's a nightmare and someone's gotta do it.
Moved into our current office on West Georgia (with actual windows!). Brought on specialized tax advisors and a fractional CFO team. Started running workshops for Vancouver's startup community - teaching founders that you can't just ignore your books until tax season. Who knew?
